With 218 firehouses, New York City has the biggest fire department in the country, and FDNY Engine 89, Ladder 50 is an important part of that machine in the Bronx! Screaming down the streets in their bright red fire engines to deal with an emergency or just swinging by to lend a helping hand, these heroes always rush out the door for the Bronx. They stay in what is affectionately called “the cuckoo’s nest,” their firehouse built in 1926 and positioned on Bruckner Boulevard. Community members have nothing but praise for their firefighters. “I had fallen and was in a tough spot, but they went above and beyond to help me get back on my feet,” reads one review.
