The Bronx River Alliance brought the Bronx River back from being “open sewage” around 50 years ago. Today, they continue this work by advocating for the restoration and preservation of the river. The Ecological Restoration and Management unit works to protect and improve the Bronx River and other Bronx waterways. Thousands of volunteers help in their efforts. The Alliance also works to construct the Bronx River Greenway. Education and engaging the community are important parts of their mission. They offer internships, curriculum for schoolteachers and tours of the river to spark learning and engagement in students. The Bronx River Alliance also provides guides for everything from Greenway bicycling to forest tree identification. Some of the best ways of getting involved include becoming a member or volunteering with the Alliance!

As a coordinated advocate, the Bronx River Alliance works tirelessly to protect, improve, and restore the Bronx River corridor. In close collaboration with New York City Parks Department, community-based partners, nonprofits, businesses, and all levels of government, the Alliance spearheads equitable restoration and is advocating for the construction of the Bronx River greenway—a series of parks and trails weaving through communities from Soundview Park to the Kensico Reservoir. With a commitment to protecting and restoring the Bronx River, the Alliance seeks to transform the waterway into an outdoor classroom, connecting students with the natural wonders of their home borough. Through community engagement, the Bronx River Alliance ensures that Bronx voices lead the way in the ongoing reclamation of this vital waterway.

The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the Bronx river and has facilitated many events to clean, restore and educate about the borough’s waterway. The Bronx River Alliance works in partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor with the end goal of making it a healthy ecological, recreational, educational, and economic resource for all communities through which the river flows. The Alliance works in close partnership with the New York City Parks as well as dozens of community-based partners, regional nonprofits, businesses, and all levels of government!
