In the late 1960’s Throggs Neck native Reverend Weaving formed a collaborative relationship with Presbyterian Senior Services and the State of New York Division of Housing and Community Renewal to build an affordable, safe, attractive, well-maintained housing facility for any adult 62 years of age or older of moderate income and capable of living independently. In 1973, the Fort Schuyler House became a destination and “home” to many of the area’s seniors with a diversity of living situations. The eight-story building is comprised of 118 studio units, 20 one-bedroom units, and one superintendent’s unit and after 2020 renovations, include converted kitchenettes to fully functioning kitchens with new new flooring; new electrical risers and CB panels; new emergency pull cords; and energy-saving appliances.
